VAL VERDE — A truck hauling fertilizer overturned on Henry Mayo Drive near the Golden State Freeway on Thursday morning, fouling the commute for motorists during rush hour, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 6:50 a.m., when the truck driver apparently lost control of the vehicle as it rounded a curve while traveling west on the two-lane state highway, CHP Officer Wendy Moore said.
About 30 gallons of a fertilizer made from calcium ammonia nitrate spilled from the truck’s trailer, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit contained the spill on the roadway before it leaked into the sewer system, a Fire Department spokeswoman said.
There were no injuries, and the road was reopened about 11:15 a.m, Moore said.
The CHP is investigating the accident, Moore said.
