WEST HOLLYWOOD : Gunman Injures 2 Women in Parked Car With 1 Bullet

A 26-year-old Torrance woman remained in critical condition Wednesday after she and a friend were wounded by the same bullet during a shooting early Monday morning.

Lisa Ann La Pierre regained consciousness on Tuesday and is able to recognize family members, said a spokesman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The other victim, 21-year-old Samantha Holcomb, also of Torrance, was treated at Cedars Sinai and released.

Homicide detectives planned to meet with the victims on Wednesday to develop a detailed composite drawing of the suspect.

Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Mead said the shooting occurred about 2 a.m. as the two women sat in their parked car on North Sweetzer Avenue just south of Santa Monica Boulevard.

A gunman approached the driver’s side of the car and fired a shot from a large-caliber semiautomatic handgun, Mead said. The bullet passed through La Pierre’s neck and struck Holcomb in the left thigh.

The suspect in Monday’s shooting matches the description of a man sought in a holdup on July 2.

That incident occurred in the 8500 block of Sunset Boulevard when a gunman approached a man while he was sitting in his parked car. The suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s money and car keys. The gunman fled on foot with about $30 in cash, Mead said. No shots were fired.
