A 26-year-old Torrance woman remained in critical condition Wednesday after she and a friend were wounded by the same bullet during a shooting in West Hollywood early Monday morning.
Lisa Ann La Pierre regained consciousness on Tuesday and is able to recognize family members, said a spokesman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The other victim, 21-year-old Samantha Holcomb, also of Torrance, was treated at Cedars-Sinai and released.
Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Mead said the shooting occurred about 2 a.m. as the two women sat in their parked car on North Sweetzer Avenue just south of Santa Monica Boulevard.
A gunman approached the driver’s side of the car and fired a shot from a large-caliber semiautomatic handgun, Mead said. The bullet passed through La Pierre’s neck and struck Holcomb in the left thigh.
