MANHATTAN BEACH : Wilson Joins Ceremony Honoring Slain Officer

A marble and bronze monument was dedicated Wednesday to Manhattan Beach Police Officer Martin Ganz, whose slaying during a traffic stop in December shocked the community and sparked a nationwide manhunt that continues today.
Gov. Pete Wilson was among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony at Live Oak Park, a block south of the police station.
Steve Guidone, 50, a Manhattan Beach dentist who raised $16,000 to build the monument, said he hopes the memorial will give community members a place to resolve painful memories of Ganz’s slaying.
“We live in this beautiful, isolated bubble in Manhattan Beach, and I hope this will remind people to be more aware that there are some people in this society who have ill will,” said Guidone.
A bronze casting of Ganz’s helmet, keys, badge and gloves sits on a pillar that rises from the circular, marble memorial.
