Mary Vajo, Hungarian Affairs Activist, Dies
Mary (Nancy) Vajo, 86, who owned and operated Walteria Drug Store on Pacific Coast Highway in Torrance during the 1950s and 1960s with her late husband, Frank, died in her sleep Monday in a Northridge nursing home.
For nearly half a century, the Vajos played active roles in the affairs of the Los Angeles Hungarian community. Frank Vajo died in 1985.
The Vajos moved to Torrance from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1946. They also owned an avocado grove in Fallbrook.
Mrs. Vajo was born in Velkekapusany, Hungary, and moved to the United States with her parents as a small child.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law and two grandsons.
