Weis Criticized

The criticism of county Supt. of Schools Chuck Weis for displacing the political aspirations of Dan Flynn could be entirely unwarranted. Chuck undoubtedly intends to eliminate the other positions in the department and then resign to save money.
He probably has realized that in the interest of economy, the Ventura County School Board and his department--another layer of unnecessary bureaucracy--should be demolished as a wasteful anachronism of the horse and buggy days.
Such an action could probably save $1 million a year for Ventura County education alone. And if the practice were extended to the other 58 counties, the savings could be more than $50 million.
Or maybe Chuck intends to replace Flynn with a newcomer at a much lower salary. With the savings, he could probably get the school board to give him a second raise this year.
