Digital, General Instrument in Interactive Deal: Digital Equipment Corp. of Maynard, Mass., and General Instrument Corp. of Chicago said they will work together in the emerging market of systems offering access to an array of information, such as movies and home shopping services, over television sets. DEC, the nation’s third-largest maker of computers, will supply servers and software, and General Instrument is to supply the access boxes. The non-exclusive agreement is significant to DEC because General Instrument controls about 65% of the market for the boxes.
