GOLF ROUNDUP : Lohr Fizzles, McCumber Takes Lead

After making 15 birdies in the first two rounds of the Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic, Bob Lohr had only one Saturday, and the results were predictable.

“If I don’t win, I may look back at this round and regret it,” Lohr said after he lost his advantage--and his lead--in the $1.1-million event at Williamsburg, Va.

Lohr, who opened the event at Kingsmill Golf Club with a 10-under 61 and followed that by setting a 36-hole scoring record for the event, slipped to a 73, capped by a double bogey on the 18th hole.

Mark McCumber charged from seven shots off the pace with a six-under 65, leaving him at 12-under 201, one shot ahead of Lohr.

Kim Williams’ struggle to overcome the effects of a gunshot wound suffered last week haven’t kept her from being in contention in the Jamie Farr Toledo LPGA Classic at Sylvania, Ohio.

Williams shot a one-over 72 and is one of six at two-under 140, three shots behind the leaders.

Williams was shot last Saturday night while entering a drug store in Niles, Ohio.

She is playing with a bullet lodged in her rib cage.

“I’m feeling good, but tired,” Williams said after Saturday’s round. “If it had been hot like yesterday, I don’t think I could have played.”

Tammie Green, Lauri Merten, Sherri Turner and Meg Mallon are tied for first at 137.

Jim Colbert shot a seven-under 64 and took a six-stroke lead in the Kroger Senior Classic at Mason, Ohio.

Colbert’s 12-under 130 equaled the tournament record for 36 holes. Ray Floyd, Bob Murphy, Rocky Thompson, DeWitt Weaver and Kermit Zarley, the first-round leader, are in second.

Colbert, who started the day at five under, birdied No. 2, then Nos. 7-11, and 13, 15 and 18 to tie the tournament single-round record, which Zarley had matched Friday.
