Circus Visits Pershing Square

Come and see a man juggle a 140-pound table--with his feet--a woman dangle in the air from a trapeze and clowns mime a Ping-Pong match.
Those are just some of the highlights when the L.A. Circus visits Pershing Square this weekend, officials said.
It’s not Barnum and Bailey’s “Greatest Show on Earth,” but event organizers say their 80-foot by 80-foot makeshift circus ring will offer a more “intimate” experience for the audience.
“No one sits more than 30 feet from the ring,” said Dick Monday, artistic director. “It makes it a lot more exciting.”
The shows--noon and 5:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. and noon Saturday--will also feature a female rope artist, a six-piece live band, three clowns and a Boston terrier named Genki, derived from part of the Japanese phrase for “How are you?” Monday said.
Holly Barnhill, executive director of the Downtown Marketing Council, said the circus shows will be the last CeLAbrate Downtown promotional event this summer. They are geared to tourists and families as well as Downtown employees.
Cost per ticket is $6. Information: (213) 482-3733.
