Computer Associates Stung by Exodus: About half the 250 software engineers at Alameda-based Ingres Corp. have quit or been fired over issues stemming from the company’s consolidation into Computer Associates International Inc. The exodus was prompted in part by a protest over Computer Associates’ denial of benefits to unmarried domestic partners of employees and by an employment clause barring employees who leave from joining rival software firms, said Eric Carlson, former chief executive of ASK Group Inc., Ingres’ parent. Computer Associates last month agreed to acquire ASK Group for $310 million. The exodus includes some of the company’s top software designers, and it complicates Computer Associates’ efforts to absorb the database software company, according to analysts and others familiar with Ingres.
