WORLD CUP USA ’94 / THE FIRST ROUND : Spotlight : MEXICO TAKES STOCK OF TIE, ADVANCEMENT
Mexican stocks declined amid concern that U.S. interest rates may rise and U.S. economic could slow, according to traders, but that decline was arrested about noon, after the Mexican national team tied Italy, 1-1, in the World Cup.
Mexico advanced to the second round.
After the bolsa index fell 20.61 points, share prices jumped.
“No question, the market sentiment improved,†after Mexico advanced to the second round, said Ron Villa, a trader at Invex, Casa de Bolsa. “After the game people found bargains and bid up prices.â€
The bolsa index finished the day down 6.46 points.
