Family Fun on Dad’s Day
Father’s Day is Sunday, so it’s the perfect time for a family adventure--the annual Huck Finn Jubilee. Mojave Narrows Regional Park isn’t the Mississippi River, but it provides a fine setting for the Catfish Derby, food and craft areas, the mountain man camp and Civil War encampment.
The whole family can compete in the tomahawk throw and greased-pole climbing events. You can also build a raft or go on a hay wagon ride. Bluegrass, gospel and mountain music will be ongoing each day.
The event begins at 8 a.m. Friday with the Catfish Derby ($3 for contestants), followed by the Russell Bros. Circus (all three days). The crafts area offers everything from leather goods to blown glass each day. On Saturday, the state arm wrestling championship takes place at 1 p.m.
Take the Big Valley Road exit of I-15, and follow the signs from Ridgecrest Avenue, Victorville to Mojave Narrows Regional Park. Camping $10. Admission $7; children 6-11, $3; under 6 free. Parking free. (909) 780-8810.
