Bridge Work to Affect 3 Freeways
The California Department of Transportation announced closures of several freeways in Orange County in the coming week so construction crews can begin demolishing bridges that will give way to new interchanges for three key freeways.
Transportation officials said the nightly closures are necessary so construction crews can demolish bridges that serve as interchanges for the Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Orange freeways.
All northbound lanes of the Santa Ana Freeway will be closed at the Main Street exit for five hours nightly beginning Tuesday and ending Friday. The closure will be in effect between midnight and 5 a.m.
The connector from the northbound Santa Ana Freeway to the northbound Orange Freeway also will be closed between midnight and 5 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Officials said the southbound lanes of the Santa Ana Freeway also will be closed nightly during the same hours at The City Drive between today and Friday. The closure will be repeated next week between June 19 and June 22.
Caltrans said the closure at The City Drive exit is necessary to demolish the bridge that serves as the interchange for the Santa Ana and Orange freeways.
Motorists will be guided to alternate routes by detour signs, said transportation officials.
