27th Watts Summer Games to Open Saturday Across L.A.
The 27th annual All Sport L.A. Watts Summer Games, the largest high school athletic competition in the nation, begins with preliminary competition Saturday at 24 sites throughout the Los Angeles Basin. Finals begin June 25.
Admission is free.
The Central City area will be well-represented by Crenshaw’s two-time City Section 4-A girls’ basketball champions, City wrestling champion Bell and Southern Section IV-A Division boys’ basketball champion Verbum Dei.
Wilson quarterback Eddie Gonzales and receiver Buster Bradley and Locke running back Sirr Parker will be among the top players competing in flag football at Compton College.
Clem Breedlove (Jordan), Zenobia Tyson-Hunt (Roosevelt), Jackie Leverett (Jefferson), Ruby Maciel (South Gate), and Kristi Latin and Naila Moseley of Crenshaw are among the top basketball players.
Dorsey, Fremont, Jordan and Wilson are the local sites for the preliminary basketball games.
