A Very Berry Oxnard Weekend
Oxnard claims to harvest 23% of California’s strawberries, so it’s fitting that the town folk will celebrate their harvest with the annual California Strawberry Festival this weekend.
Strawberry delights range from crepes and blintzes to chocolate-dipped berries and strawberry cheesecake on a stick. For strawberry lovers who can’t shove enough of ‘em down their throats, there are competitions such as the Strawberry Shortcake Eating Contest.
If you start to see too much red, there are also three stages full of performers, including Big Mountain, Three Dog Night, Doug Kershaw and the Temptations, along with children’s entertainment.
For those who overload on calories, there’s a 10K race and non-competitive two-mile Family Dash at 8 a.m. Sunday. The festival is 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at Strawberry Meadows of College Park, 3250 S. Rose Ave. $5; children 2-12 and seniors, $3. Information: (805) 444-5544.
