Nonprofit Groups Can Apply for Funds
MISSION VIEJO — Sunday is the deadline for local nonprofit organizations to apply for funding from City Hall.
About $8,000 remains to be awarded from the $50,000 the city sets aside each year to help charitable groups provide service to the community.
Organizations do not have to be based in Mission Viejo, but their programs must benefit city residents.
The funding applications are reviewed quarterly and requests are approved according to a set of criteria, which includes how many Mission Viejo residents use the program and whether the needs the program serves are available to local residents elsewhere.
Recipients in recent years have used city funding to help support homes for teen-age mothers, services for senior citizens and music outreach programs for children.
The funds can also be awarded to groups organizing special civic events and cultural arts programs.
Groups interested in applying for community service funds can pick up an application at City Hall, 26522 La Alameda. For more information, call the Community Service Department at (714) 348-2061.
