Westcorp: The Irvine financial services holding company whose principal subsidiary is Western Financial Savings Bank reported profit of $3.9 million, or 17 cents a share, for the first quarter, up 30% from earnings of $3 million, or 16 cents a share, recorded for the same period a year earlier. Total assets dropped 5% to $2.1 million from $2.2 million.
