TRACK ROUNDUP : Novak Helps Eagles Overcome Sailors
Heather Novak won three events and Barbara Scheil and Katie Nuanes each won two to lead Santa Margarita over Newport Harbor, 77-59, in a Sea View League girls’ track and field meet Thursday at Saddleback College.
Novak won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.7 seconds and won the long jump (16-7) and triple jump (35-0). Scheil won the 100 (12.8) and 200 (26.6) and Nuanes won the 800 (2:27.0) and 3,200 (11:41.1) for the Eagles (5-0 in league).
Gina Heads of Newport Harbor (4-1) put the shot 45-1 1/4, giving her the top two marks in the county this season. Her 45-7 is the top mark in the county.
In the Century League:
Canyon 79, El Modena 43--Senior Carrie Hoagland broke her school record in the high jump by clearing 5-5 to lead Canyon (3-0, 3-0). Kate Erdei won the 100 (13.0), 100 hurdles (16.2) and 300 hurdles (48.7) and Dawn Brown won the 200 (27.6) and 400 (1:01.3) for Canyon. El Modena is 4-1, 2-1.
El Dorado 67, Los Alamitos 60--Tasha Walker won the 110 hurdles (16.2) and the 330 hurdles (45.88) to lead host El Dorado (2-2, 1-2).
In the Freeway League:
La Habra 70, Sunny Hills 47--Amelia Herrera won the 100 (13.1) the 200 (27.6), the 100 hurdles (17.0) and anchored the winning 400 relay team for La Habra (3-0 in league).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 86, Valencia 41--Junior Marsha Conrad set a school record in shot put for the second consecutive week with a 36-3 mark for Brea-Olinda. Conrad also won the discus (112-2). Kendra Lakin had season bests in winning the 100 hurdles (16.8) and 300 hurdles (49.5) for the Wildcats (6-3, 3-0).
In the Sunset League:
Edison 86, Fountain Valley 41--Kerry O’Bric jumped 35-6 1/2 in the triple jump, breaking the school record by six inches, for Edison (7-0, 5-0).
In Empire League boys’ track and field:
Cypress 81, Loara 54--Ali Mahammadi won the 880, 1,600 and 3,200 for Cypress (4-2, 1-2).
Los Alamitos 84, El Dorado 57--Matt Hertzler won the shot put (49-6 1/2) and Jacob Coner won the 880 (2:03.6) for host El Dorado (2-2, 1-2).
In the Garden Grove League:
Pacifica 67, La Quinta 60--Senior Londell Ramsey won the 100 yards (10.4), the 440 (55.7), the 120 hurdles (15.2) and the 330 hurdles (43.7) for host Pacifica (2-3).
In the Orange League:
Savanna 105, Western 26--Ed Demerest won the 880, mile and two mile, Luke Cunningham won the 120 hurdles and 330 hurdles, Carlos Anderson won the high jump and pole vault and James Whight won the shot put and discus for Savanna (5-1, 2-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Century 120, Laguna Beach 11--Eric Stephan won the 100 hurdles in 16.7 and the 300 hurdles in 43.2 for Century (3-0 in league).
In the Sea View League:
Woodbridge 88, Irvine 47--Gary Young won the 100 (10.8) and the 200 (22.33) for Woodbridge. Tony Muniz won the high jump (6-0) and the triple jump (44-7) for the Warriors (5-0 in league).
In the South Coast League:
Mission Viejo 86, Mater Dei 45--Jonathan Galvaz won the 100 (11.2) and the 200 (23.1) for visiting Mission Viejo.
