Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : 1 Killed in Fire at Roadside Hotel
VALENCIA — One person was killed in a Thursday afternoon fire that destroyed one room and damaged five others at a roadside hotel across from Magic Mountain amusement park, authorities said.
The unidentified victim is described as a male of unknown age whose body was badly burned in the blaze, which broke out shortly after 2 p.m. on the first floor of the Ranch House Inn in the 27400 block of Tourney Road, said Inspector Mario DeFina of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
About 30 firefighters battled the blaze at the two-story structure for about 20 minutes before bringing it under control, DeFina said.
Damage was estimated at $140,000.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by arson investigators from the County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, DeFina said.
