Cable TV: American Telephone & Telegraph Co., Liberty Media Corp. and the investment banking firm Allen & Co. have confirmed plans to launch by year’s end a nationwide sports cable network offering sporting event reruns, documentaries and talk shows featuring athletes. The new Classic Sports Network channel will also be a base for home shopping and interactive games, as The Times reported earlier. The executive partners in Classic Sports are Chief Executive Brian Bedol, who left Time Warner Inc.’s Time Warner Enterprises to start the channel, President Stephen Greenberg, former deputy commissioner of Major League Baseball, and Chairman Gil Friesen, formerly president of A&M; records.
