CITY HALL : HAWTHORNE : City to Tackle 2-Year Budget
Hawthorne officials plan to begin work next month on the city’s first two-year budget.
The City Council instructed City Manager James H. Mitsch on Monday night to present a budgeting plan by April 11.
The city has been operating without a budget since July, more than nine months into the fiscal year. Earlier this month, the council changed the budget cycle from one year to two.
Council members said they have had difficulty trying to eliminate a projected $1.8-million shortfall this year caused by the poor economy and state budget cuts.
