PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Tessman Gets Extra Duty, Foothill Sweeps Fountain Valley
Amy Tessman picked up a victory and a save as Foothill swept Fountain Valley in a nonleague softball double-header Tuesday.
Tessman pitched the final three innings as the Knights won the first game, 4-1. She came back to pitch a two-hitter in Foothill’s 4-0 victory in the second. Tessman is 2-0 with a save, and Foothill is 3-0.
In other nonleague softball:
Edison 12, Corona del Mar 5--Christina Benshoff and Toni Mizerek hit home runs for host Edison (2-1).
El Modena 11, Aliso Niguel 8--Kristi Bolle was three for three with three stolen bases for El Modena (1-1).
Esperanza 5, Tustin 2--Wendy Harrison had a two-run single in the fourth and later scored the winning run for Esperanza (2-1).
Magnolia 8, Laguna Beach 1--Junior Jennifer Cloyd pitched a no-hitter with two strikeouts for visiting Magnolia (3-1). Sophia Garcia had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.
Santa Ana Valley 4, Bolsa Grande 1--Lisa Pham pitched a two-hitter for Santa Ana Valley (1-2).
La Habra 13, Western 0--Cristy Turner pitched her first no-hitter, striking out six for the Highlanders (3-0). Aimee Weathers had two home runs and a double and drove in six runs and Edie Topping added two hits and three RBIs for La Habra.
Brethren Christian 4, Downey Warren 0--Brooke Hofstetter retired the last 20 batters she faced to record her second consecutive no-hitter for Brethren Christian (3-1). She struck out 11.
Liberty Christian 13, Woodcrest Christian 10--Liz Rule had four hits, including a double and triple, and had five RBIs for Liberty Christian (2-1).
In the championship round of the Fullerton Tournament:
Los Alamitos 9, Western 0--Carolyn Wilson had a two-run homer and a double for Los Alamitos (5-0), ranked first in Orange County. Sheri Bergeron gave up five hits in her first shutout of the year.
Buena Park 2, Savanna 1--Jennifer Merrow recorded nine strikeouts and gave up one earned run in seven innings to lead Buena Park.
In the Cypress tournament:
Pacifica 2, Rancho Alamitos 0--Shelly Dunn pitched seven scoreless innings for her second victory of the year and lead Pacifica (2-0) in the second round. Jill Otto (0-1) gave up two runs in six innings.
Mater Dei 3, Long Beach Poly 0--Colleen Boddy had nine strikeouts and had two hits and two RBIs and Shealee Dunavan had three hits and scored once for Mater Dei (2-1).
