The Franzia Case: Money Talks
I notice that it is “business as usual” in the Justice Department (“State Near Bottom of Barrel of Wine Grape Scandal,” Jan. 30).
It seems that Fred T. Franzia, co-founder and president of Bronco Wine Co., will have the means to buy his way out of prison. Anyone who doesn’t have the money to bribe the government would be spending time in jail.
In view of what I read concerning the character and attitude of Franzia, a few years in prison might teach him honesty and humility.
Coincidence? It looks like the racketeers over here are copycats of their “cousins” in Italy (1986 wine scandal there).
I hope the judge in the Franzia sentencing won’t be bought.
