Whitney Torregano, Magnolia’s leading scorer, averaged 16.5 points in the Sentinels’ Division III-AA playoff victories over Moreno Valley Rancho Verde and La Habra. Dorretha Bennem also contributed by averaging nine points and 16.5 rebounds, but without Mathews, Magnolia wouldn’t have advanced to the quarterfinals. Against Rancho Verde, she made five of six free throws in the final minute and against La Habra she made two free throws with 15 seconds left to give the Sentinels a 40-38 victory. Mathews scored nine points in each game.
* Tina Brescini, Esperanza, scored two goals in overtime to help the Aztecs to a 2-1 victory over Villa Park in the Division II soccer playoffs.
* Shanna Renken, El Dorado, had 26 points and 11 rebounds in a 57-39 victory over La Quinta in the Division III-AA playoffs.
* Akilah Rodgers, Rancho Alamitos, had 28 points and 17 rebounds in a 60-57 victory over San Dimas in the Division III-A playoffs.
* Susan Scott, Capistrano Valley, averaged 26.5 points in Division I-A playoff victories over Ontario and Perris.
