Roadrunners Sideswipe Golden Eagles, 75-60
Senior guard Reggie Phillips poured in 23 points to lead Cal State Bakersfield over host Cal State Los Angeles, 75-60, Thursday night in a battle for second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.
Sophomore guard Kenny Waren, who sank three three-pointers and finished with 20 points, sealed the victory with seven free throws in the final 2 1/2 minutes.
After closing the first half with a 17-7 run to take a 33-22 lead, the Roadrunners picked up right where they left off in the second, outscoring the Golden Eagles 11-2 in the first four minutes.
Cal State L.A. rallied behind forwards Tyrone Haylock and Lorenzo Ball to pull within eight, 50-42, with 6:57 remaining but Bakersfield went on a 14-4 run.
Haylock led the Golden Eagles with 15 points while Ball and center Victor Camper each added 11.
