HAWTHORNE : Smoking to Be Banned in All City Buildings
Smoke-filled rooms at Hawthorne City Hall will be a thing of the past after a smoking ban in all enclosed city buildings takes effect next month.
Council members voted 3-0 Monday night to approve the ban, which the city employees union backed with a petition drive. Council members Steve Andersen and Ginny Lambert were absent for the vote because of illness.
Not everyone was pleased with the new ordinance, however, including several staff members and residents, who took some of their few remaining indoor smoke breaks during recesses at Monday’s meeting.
