Robbers Kill 3 in Missouri Convenience Store
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Three convenience store employees were shot to death during a robbery, police said Sunday.
The body of Fred Jones, 58, was found in a walk-in cooler at Casey’s General Store around 1 a.m. The bodies of Mary Bratcher, 46, and Mabel A. Scruggs, 57, were found in a restroom.
All three had been shot in the head.
Police said they did not know how much money was taken.
Bratcher, the store’s manager, had apparently gone to the store Saturday night to help close up. Neither Jones, a new employee, nor Scruggs was familiar with the closing routine, police said.
There are no security cameras in the store, and the alarm system had not been activated, Deputy Police Chief Carroll Highbarger said.
