GARDEN GROVE : Water-Saving Classes for Gardeners Set
The regional water district is offering free classes in Garden Grove on Feb. 22 to teach landscape workers and gardeners about water conservation techniques.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is sponsoring the three-hour courses, which will be offered in English and Spanish. The classes will be led by staff from the Irrigation Technology Research Center at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
The classes will include a one-hour discussion of the relationships of soil, plants and water. Instructors also will offer solutions to common landscape irrigation problems, and offer a sample outdoor sprinkler layout to maximize water efficiency.
The Metropolitan Water District imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California and routes it to 27 public agencies. The district provides 60% of the water used by nearly 16 million people in Orange, Los Angeles and surrounding counties.
The English class begins at 9 a.m. and the Spanish class starts at 1 p.m. Both classes will be at the Garden Grove Community Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
Pre-registration is required, and all students will be given a certificate of completion at the end of class. The classes are part of an outreach program that will teach about 30 of the courses through 13 public water agencies throughout March.
