COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Wins, Must Take Two Today for Title
Aaron France pitched a three-hitter, striking out 10, as Cypress defeated College of the Desert, 4-0, Saturday to gain a shot at the championship of the Cypress baseball tournament.
The Chargers improved to 5-2 and will face unbeaten Long Beach beginning at 11 a.m. today at Cypress College. Cypress must win twice in order to take the title in the double-elimination tournament. A second game, if necessary, will immediately follow the first.
Long Beach defeated Cypress, 7-6, earlier Saturday. Isreal Gonzales had three hits and two runs batted in.
In the Southwestern baseball tournament:
Rancho Santiago 3, Orange Coast 0--Brandon Hoalton threw a two-hitter and struck out 13 for Rancho Santiago (4-2) to stay in contention for the title. Daryle Ward sealed the victory with a two-run double in the seventh.
In the Rancho Santiago Lidlifter softball tournament semifinals:
Palomar 3, Cypress 2 (5 innings)--Cypress (3-1) gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, including the winning run on a wild pitch.
Mt. San Antonio 2, Rancho Santiago 0--The Dons (2-1) were held to one base hit by Tara Midgett, who struck out seven.
