QUAKE SAVIOR: If your home was seriously damaged by the quake, CalDap may be your savior. Who? CalDap. It’s the California Natural Disaster Assistance Program, and it offers financing to repair or replace single-family homes or rental units hit hard by the temblor. . . . CalDap has a proven good track record in major disasters. (K1)

BEHAVIOR SHIFT: Back before the Northridge earthquake, most folks would sell their children--well almost--for a convenient covered parking space near an elevator . . . But since so many parking garages collapsed during the quake, there’s been a mini-rush for a spot on the top deck and other open-air spaces--anywhere that’s not under a floor that some fear could collapse in the next shaker. DUBIOUS RANKING: The millions of dollars of destruction at Cal State Northridge during the Jan. 17 earthquake appears to top the list of disaster damage to befall American universities . . .(B3) The apparent runner-up--Coral Gables campus of the University of Miami, where Hurricane Andrew caused $12.5 million in damage. However, if any Civil War era cadets were still around, they might argue that the Virginia Military Institute, which was destroyed by a 7.7 quake in 1886, deserved the No. 1 spot.

ANTELOPE ALL-STAR: OK, so maybe he doesn’t rank up there with Denny Crum and Robin Yount--two former Valley sporting legends. But Isiah Rider, who played one year at Antelope Valley Community College, is well on his way.. . . Rider made the rookie team of this year’s NBA All-Star game festivities. In the 1990-91 season, he averaged 33.6 points for Antelope Valley.
