COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Azusa Pacific Beats Cal Lutheran, 9-8
Despite three hits each by David Chapman and Joe Gordon, Cal Lutheran dropped its season opener to Azusa Pacific, 9-8, Thursday in a nonconference game called after eight innings because of darkness at Azusa.
Gordon had two doubles and drove in two runs.
Kings River 3, Glendale 2--The Vaqueros squandered a two-run, ninth-inning lead and lost in the 10th inning at the Kings River tournament in Reedley.
Glendale’s John Nall had a one-hitter through eight innings but allowed a single and a triple in the ninth. Reliever Bryan Warner hit a batter with the bases loaded and two out to force in the tying run.
Kings River (2-1) scored in the 10th after a Glendale error.
Antelope Valley 13, Cerro Coso 7--Eric Cole went five for five, including a home run and two triples, and drove in four runs for the Marauders (1-1) in a nonleague game at Cerro Coso.
Rickey Dominguez (1-0) limited Cerro Coso to seven hits and three earned runs in seven innings.
Moorpark 6, Mt. San Jacinto 6--The Raiders (1-0-1) outhit Mt. San Jacinto, 11-5, but the game ended a tie because of darkness.
Moorpark owned a 5-2 lead after seven innings, but Mt. San Jacinto rallied to tie it, 6-6, by scoring twice with two out in the ninth.
Mission 14, Cuesta 4--Erik Lazarus drove in three runs with a home run and a triple to lead Mission (3-0) to a first-round victory in the Chaffey tournament.
Ray Rivera (2-0) threw a complete game for the Free Spirit.
