NEWPORT BEACH : Balboa Water Service Will Be Interrupted
Beginning late Wednesday night and lasting until dawn Thursday, water will cut off to a portion of Balboa Peninsula while city workers reline a water main.
Pete Antista, Newport Beach utilities superintendent, said that residents who live between 8th Street and Island Avenue should plan to be without water from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday.
Antista said some residents also will notice flakes of rust in their tap water while the project is underway. He said that people can safely drink that odd-colored water but should not use it to do laundry.
City workers, with the help of a hired contractor, will be relining a 16-inch water pipe that was installed in 1926 to serve the peninsula. Before the work begins, workers will go door-to-door to tell residents of the project.
Residents can expect a series of water interruptions in coming weeks but Antista is not sure when they will occur and for how long.
