Burbank Closes In on Football Coach
BURBANK — An athletic department official said Thursday that Burbank High has selected a new varsity football coach, but an announcement is pending an approval of teaching arrangements and other details.
Burbank Athletic Director Frank Kallem would not confirm that Burbank’s choice is Montclair Prep assistant John Hazelton. A Burbank district official said earlier in the week that Hazelton was the overwhelming choice of a 13-member selection committee.
The committee did not interview Hazelton or the two other finalists--St. Genevieve Coach Richard Fong and Glendale College assistant Robert Dos Remedios--until Wednesday evening.
“We have one person in mind, but we’re still checking out that person,†Kallem said. “The interview process is complete, but the decision is not finalized. We’re not quite ready to release the name yet.â€
