A Port Hueneme dentist has been named president of the Port Hueneme Chamber of Commerce, officials said Thursday.

Robert E. Turner, who owns a dental practice on Pleasant Valley Road, will lead the city’s Chamber of Commerce for a one-year term, said Pat Zanuzoski, the business group’s executive manager.

Turner was installed during a dinner Wednesday at the Mandalay Beach Resort in Oxnard. Brady Cherry, director of Port Hueneme’s recreation and community services department, was named citizen of the year at the same dinner.

Cherry received the honor because he has shown “social responsibility†for the residents of Port Hueneme during the five years he has worked for the city, Zanuzoski said.

Cherry established the city’s senior appreciation day, when senior volunteers are treated to a hot meal and given awards, Zanuzoski said. Cherry spends his own money to pay for the parties, Zanuzoski added.
