Bowater Inc. agreed to settle 44 lawsuits without admitting responsibility in the December, 1990, string of crashes on Interstate 75. The wrecks killed 12 people and injured more than 50.
Douglas Fees, an attorney for 30 plaintiffs, said the settlement sends a message that companies generating industrial fog need to protect the public.
