What’s It Cost?

It’s hard to estimate how much a high school student spends on extras during four years of school--the dances, proms, pictures, yearbooks, football and basketball games, class rings, school concerts, caps and gowns, to name a few.

The Fullerton Union High School student newspaper, the Pleiades, took a stab at figuring it out. The paper estimated that the average student at Fullerton spends $1,327 for the school extras, not including things like lunch, fund-raisers, raffles, paper, pencils etc.

A cheerleader who is on the squad for three years pays $3,279 for extras over four years--more than any other student, according to the paper. That includes the expense of uniforms.

Athletes? A student who plays three sports a year for four years comes in at $2,535.

So who has any money left for lunch at a taco stand?
