Boxing Federation Champion in Irvine Tonight
IRVINE — Alex Garcia, heavyweight champion of the North American Boxing Federation, will be the featured performer tonight when the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott starts its 10th year.
Garcia (33-3 with 26 knockouts) is one of the better fighters to appear on a “Battle in the Ballroom†card.
Garcia, from San Fernando, takes on George O’Mara (14-8) of Los Angeles in a 10-round non-title bout. O’Mara has eight knockouts.
Shane Mosley of Pomona, considered one of best up-and-coming boxers in Southern California, is in the eight-round semi-main event.
Mosley, a lightweight, is 7-0 with seven knockouts. He was a three-time national amateur champion, and was an alternate on the 1992 Olympic team behind Oscar De La Hoya. He had beaten De La Hoya earlier in his amateur career.
Francisco Rodriguez of Los Angeles takes on Mosley.
Tickets--priced at $35, $30 and $25--go on sale today in the ballroom. The first of six scheduled bouts starts at 7:30 p.m.
