SAN PEDRO : Policeman Posts Bail in Sexual Assault Case
A Los Angeles police officer has posted $100,000 bail pending a Feb. 1 hearing on charges that he tried to force a woman at gunpoint into his car to sexually assault her.
At his arraignment last week, Raymond Gerber Jr., 42, a patrol officer in the Harbor Division, pleaded innocent to three felony charges stemming from the Jan. 9 incident.
The 12-year Police Department veteran was arrested at his home Jan. 13 on suspicion of attacking a 33-year-old woman in the 200 block of West 7th Street in San Pedro, said Suzanne Childs, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
Police traced Gerber through the woman’s description of her assailant’s car. The assailant was not wearing a police uniform nor driving a patrol car.
Gerber is charged with one count each of kidnaping for sexual purposes with a special allegation that he used a firearm in the commission of the crime; assault with intent to commit oral copulation with the allegation that he used a firearm; and assault with a firearm.
