Mighty Ducks Add Another Big Ewen to the Organization
ANAHEIM — Todd Ewen is the Mighty Ducks’ No. 1 enforcer.
Soon, the Ducks could have another who looks a lot like him.
Ewen’s younger brother, Dean, has agreed to contract terms with the team and is expected to be assigned to San Diego.
Dean Ewen, 24, had been in the minors with the New York Islanders before undergoing reconstructive knee surgery last year. He practiced Saturday with the Ducks and said he has passed a physical.
At 6 feet 2, 240 pounds, he is a little shorter and a little more solid than Todd, 27, who leads the Ducks in penalty minutes with 144 and has a career-high six goals.
“He’s a big kid,†Todd Ewen said. “Skilled? Yeah, right. Skill runs in the family.â€
Once, while playing for the same junior team, the Ewen brothers started fighting while on opposite sides in a scrimmage. “The coach kicked us off the ice and we went out in the parking lot,†Dean Ewen said.
