Gift Helps Clinic Take New Patients

Clinica Para las Americas, the largest nonprofit primary health care clinic serving Pico-Union and Westlake, has received a $50,000 shot in the arm thanks to a private donation disbursed through RLA, formerly known as Rebuild LA.
The donation will be used to hire a part-time physician, fund medications and laboratory tests and expand its services to an estimated 3,000 additional patients. The clinic had been forced to refuse new patients because of its overwhelming case load.
The clinic, founded in 1989, had about 11,000 patients this year and thousands more received HIV tests, health and parenting education and counseling through the clinic’s community outreach program, said Leslie Gallagher, the clinic’s development director.
The clinic is at 318 S. Alvarado St.
