SOCCER ROUNDUP : Denson, Irvine Edge El Toro in Girls’ Soccer

Sarah Denson scored two goals to lead Irvine, ranked No. 9 in Orange County, to a 2-1 victory over No. 7 El Toro in a nonleague girls’ soccer game Monday at El Toro.
Denson, a freshman, scored the game-winning goal with 15 minutes remaining for the Vaqueros (4-1), who lost to El Toro, 1-0, in the final of the Irvine tournament Saturday. Jenny Fricke scored for El Toro (5-2).
Goalie Missy Brigman had two saves for Irvine; Heather Lindstrom had six for the Chargers.
In other nonleague girls’ soccer games:
Brea-Olinda 1, Foothill 0--Cynthia Barajas scored the game-winning goal and Juli Evers recorded four saves to lead Brea-Olinda (1-2-2).
La Quinta 0, Costa Mesa 0--Sara Ackelson had five saves for visiting Costa Mesa (4-0-1) and Barbara Holcomb had five saves for La Quinta.
Katella 2, Orange 1--Jamie Viacaro and Jillian Bressler each scored, and Mindy Gunderson recorded six saves to lead Katella (4-1-2).
In the Long Beach Millikan boys’ soccer tournament:
Santa Ana Valley 3, Simi Valley Royal 1 (OT)--Francisco Islas and Rafael Reynosa scored in overtime to lead the Falcons (7-1) in the title game.
Lakewood Mayfair 1, Los Alamitos 1 (Mayfair wins on penalty kicks, 10-9)--Patrick Lee tied the score in the second half and Clay Peterson recorded three saves for Los Alamitos in the consolation final.
