EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New Jersey Nets acquired small forward Johnny Newman from the Charlotte Hornets on Friday for point guard Rumeal Robinson.
The Nets said neither player was expected to be in uniform tonight when New Jersey plays the Hornets at Charlotte.
Newman, a 6-foot-7 forward who will be a free agent at the end of the season, is expected to share playing time with Chris Morris. A seven-year veteran who also played for New York and Cleveland, Newman was averaging 13.0 points and 3.2 rebounds.
Robinson, a 6-2 guard, will share time with Muggsy Bogues at point guard for Charlotte. The three-year veteran averaged 5.9 points and 2.6 assists in a backup role to Kenny Anderson with the Nets.
