FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Holiday Get-Together to Be Held at Park

For a taste of an old-fashioned holiday celebration, the Fountain Valley Historical Society is hosting its annual “Sounds of Christmas” Sunday at Heritage Park.
Local Girl Scouts will sing Christmas carols, Santa Claus will pay a visit and hot cider and cookies will be given to all.
“It’s a community get-together and sing-along with a small-town atmosphere and a family-oriented time,” said Julie Hoxsie, a historical society member.
The event will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the park, behind City Hall, at 10200 Slater Ave.
Santa is expected to arrive at 1:30 p.m. on the back of a fire truck.
Hoxsie said the event started in 1988 in memory of the late Doris Dick, a longtime resident who was active in the community.
“It was a dream to put together a Christmas celebration at the park,” Hoxsie said.
The park, which preserves part of the city’s history, has a firehouse, in which a 1949 firetruck is stored, a water tower from a local farm and a real estate office that once stood at Talbert Avenue and Bushard Street.
Hoxsie said the event will be held rain or shine.
