* TV: Cable giant Tele-Communications Inc. and Mexico’s Grupo Televisa, which last May agreed on a joint venture to provide cable TV service in Mexico, have called off the deal. Under the original terms, TCI was to buy a 49% stake in Grupo Televisa subsidiary Cablevision. TCI and Grupo Televisa were also planning to create a joint venture to provide cable TV service in other Latin American countries. In 1992, Cablevision had sales of $79 million. The companies said it was in their “best interests to terminate the proposed arrangements in view of both parties’ long-term objectives,” but they did not elaborate. The announcement is unusual because the Latin American TV market is believed to be poised for tremendous growth. Fox and Time Warner’s HBO have already launched Spanish-language networks in Latin America, and others are angling to get into the market.
