Past Performance Chart Gives Valencia, Trabuco Hills Big Edge

Considering past performances, the Valencia and Trabuco Hills football teams should have no problems advancing to the championship games of their respective playoff divisions.

Valencia (11-1), the top-seeded team in Division VI, plays Savanna (10-2) Saturday at Glover Stadium. The Tigers routed the Rebels, 48-14, in an Orange League game Oct. 29.

Valencia overwhelmed Savanna in that game, scoring on five of its first six possessions. Quarterback Rob Petko completed only five passes but two were for touchdowns. Chris Draft rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass on a halfback option.

The Tiger defense was equally impressive. They intercepted three of Paul Waldrop’s passes, which set up three touchdowns. Waldrop has only seven passes intercepted in 12 games. Defensive back/wide receiver Jermaine Gray had two interceptions and also caught three passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Trabuco Hills (9-3) had an equally easy time against Pacific Coast League rival Laguna Hills (9-3), winning 33-6. The two meet in the Division VIII semifinals Saturday at Mission Viejo High School.

The Mustangs scored 19 points in the second quarter and cruised to a victory against the Hawks on Oct. 15. Serge Gudowski gained 120 yards, becoming the first Mustang to get more than 100 yards in a game this season. He scored on a 52-yard run. The Mustangs gained 246 yards rushing.

Trabuco Hills’ defense dominated quarterback Justin Vedder, who was only six of 16 for 56 yards with one interception. Vedder threw for 1,753 yards and 17 touchdowns during the regular season.
