OUTLOOK
Armenta begins his first year coaching Southern California Christian girls. And though the team could only muster one league victory last season, he is looking forward to this year. “At this point, I just want the girls to have fun and learn good sportsmanship,†he said. Of last season’s starting five, only Paik is returning. Armenta called her a super player who has a good three-point shot. Jessica Day, the other returning player who would have started at point, was declared ineligible, Armenta said, but he’s hoping that she’ll be there in time for the playoffs. A couple of pleasant surprises for Armenta are freshmen Dezion and Horvath, who will start. “These two girls are very good and really don’t have a weak spot. They can shoot and aren’t afraid to take the ball inside.†Armenta, who coached boys at the junior high school level and in a recreation league, thinks the Flames have a chance of doing better than last season’s team. “These girls will give it their best,†he said. “I have no doubt that heart won’t be a problem.â€
