2 Held After Bank Holdup, Chase
WESTMINSTER — Police arrested two 19-year-old men Monday after a bank robbery and freeway chase involving officers from two departments and the California Highway Patrol.
The incident began about noon when two men entered the Sanwa Bank in the 7700 block of Westminster Avenue, one of them waving a handgun, police said. Everyone was ordered to the floor, and one man took an unknown amount of cash from a teller station.
After the robbers fled, an employee called 911. A witness who saw the men get into a blue Chevrolet truck described it to police.
The truck entered the westbound Garden Grove Freeway at Beach Boulevard and continued to the northbound San Diego Freeway.
Six units from the Westminster and Seal Beach police departments and the CHP arrested two men at the Bellflower Boulevard exit in Long Beach, according to Lt. Bill Lewis of the Westminster Police Department.
Police seized cash believed to have been taken in the robbery, a gun and the truck, which had been reported stolen in Los Angeles.
Phillip Gordon and James Dunn, both of Los Angeles, were being held in the Orange County Jail on suspicion of robbery and possession of stolen property.
