GARDEN GROVE : Schools to Recognize Veteran Employees
A longtime guidance counselor and more than 450 other veteran staffers of the Garden Grove Unified School District will be honored with service pins at the annual employee recognition program Wednesday.
Mary Alice King, a counselor at La Quinta High, will be honored for her record 40 years of service to the district. Others will get specially designed lapel pins for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35 years of service.
King began her education career in West Virginia and joined the local school system as a math teacher at Garden Grove High in 1953.
Among this year’s recipients are the following 13 employees with 35 years’ employment: Sharon Clunk, Allen Elementary teacher; Janice Corfman, Gilbert Elementary teacher; Nancy Dufield, Newhope Elementary teacher; Delbert Garrett, Zeyen Elementary teacher; Jim Griffis, district coordinator of administrative services; Pat Haggerty, Garden Grove High teacher; Dick Mobley, Northcutt Elementary; Merle Ogle, Ralston Intermediate teacher; Phil Reber, Sunnyside Elementary principal; Sheryl Reyes, nurse; George Wilson, Los Amigos High principal; Kay Zubrod, Faylane Elementary teacher, and Tony Borrego, Bolsa Grande High building maintenance worker.
