PowerPC Chip Wins Backing: Motorola Inc. announced that a group of seven of Taiwan’s biggest electronics companies will help to develop and manufacture its new PowerPC chips, its major rival against Intel Corp.’s microprocessors. Les Crudele, Motorola’s vice president for RISC microprocessors, said the new setup was a big step “toward bringing PowerPC microprocessors into the mainstream†of the Taiwan computer market.
