TOP NEWCOMERS YR POS HT Joe Garcia Sr. F 6-4 Joe Adriano Jr. G 6-1 David Matekel Jr. G 6-2 Russell Domingo So. G 5-8

OUTLOOK

The Guards, fittingly, should have strong guard play. Adriano, Moscoso and Pawlik will vie for two guard spots alongside Mancinelli, who averaged 20.1 points a game last season. Adriano would have started for the varsity as a sophomore, but he had disciplinary problems, Wahl said. Bell-Jeff, which has four returning starters, also should have good team quickness. A weakness will be rebounding. Serra will win the Camino Real League, not much question about that. The Cavaliers are the defending state Division V champion. “Why they are in our league I’ll never know,” Wahl said. Bell-Jeff should be a leading contender for second place, though.

‘92-93 RECORD

OVERALL: 12-14

LEAGUE: 4-6

COACH: Dan Donovan

YEAR: 3rd

TOP RETURNEES YR POS HT Randy Iaccino Jr. G-F 6-2 Joseph Muller Jr. G-F 6-0 Alex Muller Sr. C-F 6-3 John Arboleda Sr. G 5-10 Ray Cruz Jr. G 5-7

TOP NEWCOMERS YR POS HT Mike Padilla Jr. G 5-9 Dennis Akuin Jr. G-F 5-10 Eric Tapia Jr. C-F 6-1 Eric Owens Fr. C-F 6-4 Robert Aquino Fr. G 5-8

OUTLOOK

The Valiants are without seven players who are playing football, including Joseph Muller, the only returning starter. Alex Muller and Randy Iaccino also are key players who are playing football. Aquino, who Donovan said will be a top player, is out with a broken wrist for the start of the season. Because it has speed but lacks size, St. Genevieve will try an up-tempo style, Donovan said. The team will be built around juniors, as Donovan prepares for 1994-95, when it will join the Serra-less Santa Fe League. With Serra a lock to win the league again, the Valiants could challenge for third place, behind St. Monica or Bell-Jeff.
